Braid, another little gem from Xbox Live Arcade

BACK TO THE FUTURE + MANIC MINER + BEAUTIFUL GRAPHIC ART

Yesterday I played “Braid”, a platform/puzzle game that I had bought a couple of months ago on Xbox Live Arcade.
Simple and easy to play, hard to master….and finally yesterday I understood its “philosophy”.

An in-depth description will come maybe this evening, if I don’t play it. Please watch the trailer immediatly!

On April 10th the PC version was released on the Steam platform.

Time cheers,
Marco

My first Commodore 64 game: SHAMUS

In these days I’m really busy and I’m really disappointed about the political life in Italy, so I have decided to post one of my first lovely games.

Shamus is a Berzerk clone for the Commodore 64. I think it was born at first on the Atari 400 and then on other computers like Vic20, Commodore 64 and so on…
I remember loading for the first time the tape “Numero 5” (number 5), made by my father…it took ages because of the loading time (about one hundred tape revs).
You are alone versus the Shadow, an unbeatable robot/monster, announced by a scary music if you stayed long time on a single screen.
You can play it using Vice, a Commodore 64 emulator.

For the curious the other games on the tape were:

Quintic warrior
Le Mans
Neutral Zone

Shamus
Pakakuda
another unknown title

How your work can influence the people’s free time

People do crazy things using our games. This video is one of the examples!
I think they can really have fun making a movie like this.

Related to these thoughts, I like to share with you this episode. Some days ago I had a speech in an high school near Turin. The topic was “The development process in the videogame world“.
When the Motogp 08 movie introduction ended, the crowd clapped with joy….and in this moment I understood that I can be happy because of my job!

Maybe in the following posts I will report carefully the result of my first speech about my job!
It has been a great experience!!

Happy cheers,
Marco

Le offerte sono dietro l’angolo: World of Goo a 4,99 euro su Steam!!!

Buonasera a tutti.

Marco

My old amazing game…a perfect game!

Hi guys!
Tired by your team that is not able to make any decent effort to win a game and a respectable place in the league table?

Ok, no problem; today you will be able to change the fate of your favourite squad!

Eidos is giving for free Championship Manager 01/02, the latest v3 version of the best football manager game ever!

The CM0102 team made “Football Manager 2009” last year and “Football Manager Live“, born on January 23th; both of two published by Sega.

In my opinion this game is really really good; it is not so complicated and you can enjoy a lot.
It’s working on Windows XP and you can install the 2008 data (please download them here in order to update to the this season.

I remember when, during an important relegation match between Brescia (my team) and Fiorentina, I was winning with the score 2 goals to 1; at minute 75th, Fernando Torres went to the field. He made two shots in the last 10 minutes and I lost 2-3.
The match was really exciting even if I lost and, at the end of the league, I was relegated but I really really enjoyed!

Football cheers and go Juventus!

Ho preso l’XBox 360

No!

Marco

The warriors – a perfect tie-in?

I don’t like tie-in; in the majority of the releases they are an awful mix of mini games.

There are some examples in the history where the videogames have tried to extend the history of the film and the results have been absolutely brilliant!!

Ghostbuster (David Crane – Activision, Commodore 64), Ghostbuster 2 (Dynamix, Activision, PC version), Alien (Argus Press Software, Spectrum and Commodore 64) and one of the latest titles (waiting for Ghostbuster on June 2009) “The Warriors” for Playstation 2 and PSP.

Playing the game, you can live the history of the film and the events that come before it.
Rockstar games, the GTA’s people, made a really great job for both PS2 and PSP version. I didn’t see the XBOX 1 version but I think it’s almost the same.

Great because of the script, the game gives a boost to the player immediatly when you see the computer graphic intro that is the same of the film, where you can read the credits of the game in (awesome!).

On PSP, the game is a masterpiece because of its conversion; I finished on the PS2 version and I decided to buy it for my PSP.
You can play as its best if you put the ISO content on your memory stick (if your PSP is able to do it); in this way the loading times are really really fast and this feature can improve its playbility.

On the following links you can see the trailer of the game and the real movie.

The game, a real game: Majestic

At the beginning, in 1997 I discovered “The Game”, a movie with Michael Douglas; then “Majestic” came out.

Majestic: “It plays you

I never played this game, but its story seemed really interesting; five episodes, one season and other seasons planned, but never released.

This was one of the first “Alternate reality game“.
Made by Electronic Arts in 2000, for a montly cost of $9.95 the players would have been involved in a conspiracy-like game; phone, email, instant messaging tools would have been used intensively to interact with the players.

In order to discover the story and to play the game, you had to communicate to Electronic Arts your phone number, your fax number and, as usual, your personal email.
The game was in real time, so in every moment of your day you could receive datas like emails, sms or phone calls to discover another piece of the story or some interesting clues.

You could enable an option during the game in order to give a warning in every message to do not scare your family.

This is a phone call from the video game Majestic“, a female voice said.

…but September 11, 2001 came and the game stopped working for a while, due its subject matters, as you can read on Wikipedia’s article.

The game “died” in April 30, 2002 due to the lack of players.

A really interesting game experiment…that other games in the future would have used (eg: In Memoriam).

My first Capcom game…MotoGP is coming!

Hello guys.
If you visit this link you can see the result of Milestone’s efforts.
It’s my second videogame and the first one working with one of my favourite publishers, Capcom.
They made in the past some videogames very important for my life of videogame player:
Street fighter, Resident Evil, Ghost ‘n Goblins….

I’m proud to have worked with this company.

Cheers,

Marco
